The Saint Lucia Floral Cooperative Society (SLFCS) facilitated its first ever Valentine’s Day market on Saturday the 11th of February. Many customers visited the market to buy both gifts and flowers for Valentine’s day – it was a success! Yet another successful Training. On the 8th of February the Saint Lucia Floral Cooperative Society in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce and the Union Orchid Tissue Culture Facility led a day training on the cultivation of Orchids for the local market. (more…)

On December 14, 2011 the Saint Lucia Floral Cooperative Society Limited in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce’s Competitiveness through Linkages Project provided our local farmers with a workshop geared towards the cultivation of flowers for the export market. The talented facilitator – Ms. Marie-Louise Reid – led an insightful presentation about the proper cultivation practices for both heliconia and ginger lilies. On December 7, 2011 the members of the Saint Lucia Floral Cooperative attended a workshop at the union tissue culture facility. Mrs. Portellia Clifford-Harlow presented about the Common Pest and Diseases of Orchids and Mr. Peng presented on the upcoming Taiwan Orchid Project. They also included a hands on practical session invonving orchid deflasking and potting and repotting. At the end of the session the Orchid Tissue Culture facility and the Ministry of Agriculture gifted the attendants many trays of orchids to start growing in their greenhouses.
November 2011: Farm Visits
In November, the Saint Lucia Floral Cooperative Society Ltd. in partnership with the Union Orchid Tissue Culture Facility and The Ministry of Agriculture ventured to some of the farms located in the southern tip of Saint Lucia. We were amazed by the beautiful orchids and anthuriums that we found on the farms: Beverly Charlemagne’s Farm, Greta Noel’s Farm, and Olivia Felicien’s Farm. (more…)
